Temescal Alley

What used to be a place for horses and carriages is now a vibrant community of artists and studios- located at 49th and Telegraph in the heart of the Temescal neighborhood of Oakland. There is a strong current of urban renewal that is feeding the entire community.

Walking thru history

Oakland Heritage Alliance led another wonderful walking tour thru one of Oakland's historical neighborhoods - the Montclair District. One of the most notable spots was Colonel Jack Haye's artistic mansion, which was constructed in 1850. His home on Fernwood Drive is located well out of town, along Temescal Creek and close to a remote canyon which was later to become Moraga Ave. Today, all that remains of his grand estate is a brick wall near Thornhill Drive and the former railroad tracks.
