This University of California garden was formally established in 1890 in Strawberry Canyon. Within two years the collection of native trees shrubs and plants had 600 species.  The original garden was located near Haviland hall on the north side of the Berkeley campus and was centered around a large glass conservatory modeled after the London crystal palace. One viewer describes the gardens "It was gorgeous up here I mean straight up beautiful - it was freezing and on and off drizzling but the greenery was just breathtaking." In the following decade, it grew to 1500 species and began to expand its scope in collections to have plants from all continents and about 10,000 species. Check it out - it's worth the visit.

This festive event occurs the first Saturday of December every year. Public viewing areas for the lighted display are located at Jack London Square and Wind River Park in Alameda. This year, I watching this gala parade from the Alameda ferry. The ferry ride was free for anyone who also brought a donation for Toys for Tots. This is a wonderful, family friendly event. Make sure to check it out! The Children's Creativity Museum is a hands-on multimedia arts and technology museum for kids of all ages, located at the Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco. It aims to foster Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication. The museum is well known for its technology-based exhibits which allow youth to produce their own media through various creative processes, digital arts, live performance and music production.  ^I took my granddaughter there last week and I had as much fun as she did! Here are a few details from the 2015 San Francisco Decorator Showcase . This year, the showcase was held at the Julia Morgan designed mansion at 3630 Jackson St. in Pacific Heights. Some of the best designers in San Francisco decorate every room of this 10,000 room residence. All proceeds from this event benefit the Financial Aid Program of San Francisco University High School .

This past Friday, I attended Friday Nights at OMCA and stopped by the Oakland Museum's Pan for Gold! exhibit that is currently open to the public. Great educational activity for the entire family!

Today at Berkeley Rotary, we had a speaker from the Alliance for Climate Education (ACE) who shared information about climate change and why it's important for individuals to be aware of our changing environment. ACE is a national organization that was founded in Oakland and dedicated to educating people about climate change. Statistics show that 90% of scientists believe that climate change is caused by people while 46% of the general public disagree. In fact, polls reveal that climate change is very low on the list of the general public's priorities. People are mostly worried about terrorism, the economy, and jobs. Climate change is at the bottom of the list. The urgency of climate change is very apparent with the drought in California. Climate change impacts all of us living on this planet. Young people have the most to lose when it comes to climate change and the most to gain by taking action. This is where ACE has found an opportunity to make a difference by connect...
