Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt


The Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt in the heart of Oakland was established 15 years ago by volunteers and it is the only public bonsai garden in Northern California. It has over 75 lovely bonsai and suiseki stones are also in view. Weddings and private parties are often held next to the gardens and it is a very uplifting and inspiring setting. Be sure to visit.

High atop the hills of Tilden Park sits a serene sanctuary known as the Rotary Peace Grove. This section of the park was donated to Berkeley Rotary in 1955 when they began planting redwood trees. Each year, a different tree is dedicated to a leader in world peace and bronze plaques are displayed with the honorees' names at the base of each tree.
