Sheila Sabine - Out and About - Martin Luther King Regional Shoreline Reserve

Did you ever wonder about all those birds by the Oakland Airport when you take off on the runway?

Today with my great Rotary friends, we visited the Martin Luther King Regional Shoreline Reserve. Located near the bustling Oakland International Airport, this 741 acre park, protecting the once extensive marshland of the San Leandro Bay is a wonderful jewel tucked away in the shadows of urban living.

There is 50 acre Arrowhead marsh which is part of the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network with more than 30 varieties of shorebirds who visit during the winter months. The setting is lovely, with beautiful views of the bay and a level and easy walking trail which winds gently thru the bird haven. This is a fun place for the entire family including your dogs.
