Come with me on my tour of Oakland Chinatown -a big piece of our California history! I'm launching a new video and blog series called My East Bay, where I'll feature my favorite East Bay neighborhoods. Having lived in the East Bay since the 1980's, I have plenty to share and look forward to hearing your feedback! Here is my first video:


Originally founded in 1850 during the Gold Rush and the 4th largest Chinatown in the United States, this colorful spot is loaded with interesting items, especially for the Chinese New Year.

Rotary Peace Grove at Tilden Park

High atop the hills of Tilden Park sits a serene sanctuary known as the Rotary Peace Grove. This section of the park was donated to Berkeley Rotary in 1955 when they began planting redwood trees. Each year, a different tree is dedicated to a leader in world peace and bronze plaques are displayed with the honorees' names at the base of each tree. The members of the Rotary club prune and  clean up regularly to help preserve the magic and the beauty. The hike to the grove makes a wonderful outing for the entire family.
